SOLID HARDWOOD

At Doctor Flooring LLC, we offer our clients an extensive selection of solid hardwood flooring options to meet every need and taste.

Solid hardwood remains one of the few flooring choices that consistently enhances the value of your property. A perennial favorite, particularly in the northern regions of the United States, hardwood not only lasts for decades but also adds warmth and beauty to any space.

ADVANTAGES OF HARDWOOD FLOORING

Homeowners frequently choose solid wood over other flooring materials for several reasons:

It is easy to clean and maintain.

It offers an elegant, high-end appearance for any room.

It increases property value, making it a great investment for resale.

Available in a wide variety of species, styles, colors, patterns, and finishes.

    Provides sound insulation.

    Helps maintain indoor air quality.

Retains excellent aesthetic appeal even after years of use.

DISADVANTAGES OF HARDWOOD FLOORING

Despite its many benefits, solid hardwood does have some minor drawbacks:

It can become scratched, dented, or dinged over time.

It is sensitive to water damage.

Regular maintenance is required to guard against termites.

WHAT IS SOLID HARDWOOD?

Solid hardwood is crafted from a single piece of timber. The wood is typically air-dried or kiln-dried before being cut into planks for flooring. Depending on the desired appearance, timber can be cut in three different ways:

    Flat-sawn

    Quarter-sawn

    Rift-sawn

Timber can be finished at the factory or packaged unfinished for on-site finishing.
Hardwood flooring comes in various specifications. Most products are manufactured at a thickness of 3/4", with 3/8” being common for more budget-friendly options. Solid wood floors may also feature grooves cut along the back, running the length of each plank, known as absorption strips, which help minimize cupping.

COMMON WOOD TYPES USED FOR SOLID HARDWOOD FLOORS!

Homeowners often associate solid wood flooring with specific species that can yield ¾ inch thick planks, such as hickory, maple, and oak. The wide variety of finishes available today allows manufacturers to give ordinary wood an exotic appearance at a fraction of the cost. Nevertheless, our clients typically prefer classic wood types, including:

    Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry)

    Lapacho (Brazilian Walnut)

    Cumaru (Brazilian Teak)

    Amendiom

    American Walnut

    Hickory

    Maple
